An
innovative generating set:
The ENERGIESTRO set is comprised
of a Diesel engine (1), a clutch (2), a flywheel-generator
(3) and an inverter (4).
Power generating unit

of a of an energy storage flywheel(4), of
a ball bearing (5), of an alternator (6),

The flywheel-generator stands out because of:
Its
energy storage capability in its large diameter rotor;
Its
ultra low losses.
Off grid operation:
When the electric power required by the user
is high, the ENERGIESTRO set
operates continuously, at 1500 rpm, like
a conventional gen-set. But when the electric
power required by the user is low, the operation
is intermittent at variable speed, alternating recharging
periods (engine turning, flywheel-generator
accelerating) and discharging periods (engine
stopped, flywheel-generator decelerating).

Grid connected operation:
While grid power is available, the engine stays stopped
and short power disruptions are filtered out by the
flywheel and the inverter. The engine starts operating
only for grid outages longer than one minute. Thus
the user enjoys an unlimited power supply of the
best available quality.
Cogeneration:
The heat produced during power generation is recovered,
for instance for hot water production, which significantly
improves energetic efficiency, and thus lowers operating
costs and polluting emissions.

Benefits of intermittent
operation:
Whereas a conventional gen-set must operate continuously
to provide continuous power, the engine of the ENERGIESTRO set
stays stopped 90 % of the time.
Its life is automatically increased tenfold, its maintenance
is tenfold less frequent, and its parasitic power loss
(fuel consumption at low power) is reduced tenfold.
This is the reason why the ENERGIESTRO set is much
more economical than a conventional gen-set.

Benefits of flywheel
over battery energy storage:
The main drawback of the battery is its short life:
it has to be changed after five years or before. This
makes the cost of the stored kilowatt-hour high.
The flywheel has an infinite life: no change is required.
The cost of the stored kilowatt-hour is low. The flywheel
has many other benefits: it is lighter than the battery,
less sensitive to temperature and non polluting.
